threads of hope

  • Volunteers sort and distribute clothing on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. Contact office@waresumc.org to sign up for a volunteer shift.

  • We accept donations of clean, gently used or new clothing in sizes 4T to adult. Items can be dropped off at the Washington Chamber of Commerce, or call ahead and schedule a time to drop off at our clothing closet.

  • Financial donations to help us purchase new items like shoes, socks, and underwear are always welcome. Checks can be made out to Ware's Chapel UMC, with Threads of Hope in the memo line. All donations are tax deductible.

Threads of Hope is a ministry of Ware's Chapel UMC in partnership with Bright Futures of Beaufort County. We provide new and gently used clothing for students in need in the Beaufort County School System.

Requests for clothing are received through BCS Guidance Counselors and Social Workers using the Bright Futures platform for communicating needs. When a referral is made on behalf of a student, we do our best to fill the need within 48-72 hours, using both donations of clothing given to Bright Futures through community response, and our closet which is regularly organized and restocked.

Each child receives a basic bag of clothing to include a minimum of:

  • 3 pairs of pants

  • 5 shirts

  • 7 pairs of underwear

  • 7 pairs of socks

  • 1 pair of tennis shoes

  • 1 hoodie or jacket

Our clothing closet is located at the BCS Annex Building at 820 Bridge Street in Washington. Drop off donations by appointment only. For more information about this ministry or how to get involved, contact the Church Office.
